Stainless Steel 431 is a martensitic grade distinguished by its high strength and good corrosion resistance. Its composition is primarily iron, with a significant 15-17% chromium content, which is boosted by the addition of nickel (1.25-2.50%). This combination allows it to be hardened through heat treatment to achieve impressive mechanical properties. In its hardened condition, it offers a high tensile strength and good ductility, making it substantially stronger than many other common stainless steels while still maintaining a degree of toughness for demanding applications.
